Litchfield Park, AZ - Western New Mexico University's women's golf team delivered a strong performance in the first round of the SMSU Spring Invitational at Wigwam Resort and Golf Club in Litchfield Park, Arizona. The team finished the round at +10, putting them in third place heading into the final day of competition.

Leading the Mustangs was Shandiin Harper (Farmington, NM/Piedra Vista HS), who posted an even-par 72 with a 35 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine. Close behind, Alexandria Klemke (Goodyear, AZ/Estrella Foothills HS) and Falyn Lackey (Hobbs, NM/Hobbs HS) each recorded a 73 (+1). Klemke overcame a slower front nine (39) with an impressive 34 on the back, while Lackey remained steady throughout with a 36-37 split.

Kelly Peden (El Paso, TX/Eastwood HS) finished the round with an 80 (+8), while Corynn Speer (Alamogordo, NM/Alamogordo, HS) carded an 81(+9). Competing as an individual, Erin Turner (Deming, NM/Deming HS) also shot an 80 (+8).

With a solid first-round performance, the Mustangs aim to build on their momentum as they head into the second and final round on Tuesday March10, 2025.
