Day One of the Edmond Regional Festival

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – The Mustangs continue their 2025 season with day one of the Edmond Regional Festival hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. WNMU went up against the University of Central Oklahoma and Rogers State University. Going against the University of Central Oklahoma, the Mustangs lost in five innings 3-11. Their game against Rogers State ended in five innings as well, with a score of 0-15.

Western New Mexico vs. University of Central Oklahoma 3-11

Starting on the mound for the Mustangs, Haiven Schoolcraft (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad High School) pitched a total of 1.1 innings, facing 10 batters. Madison Kloepper (Llano, TX/Llano High School) moved to the mound, pitching 1.2 innings, facing nine batters. She earned one strike out. Finally, Labraida Tenorio (Rio Rancho, NM/Rio Rancho High School) closed the game with 1.1 innings, facing nine batters.

Offensively, the Mustangs had a total of 18 at-bats. They earned three runs with Madeline Bleak (Mesa, AZ/Mountain View High School), Kaylee Hickman (Cloudcroft, NM/Cloudcroft High School), and Ciara Spencer (Gallup, NM/Gallup High School) all crossing the plate. Kaylee Hickman (Cloudcroft, NM/Cloudcroft High School) made a big bang for the Mustangs, earning a three-run homerun in the 3rd inning. The Mustangs did a good job staying on the ball and allowing only five strikeouts during the game. Being patient at the plate, the Mustangs picked up four walks from the Broncos.

Game Two: Western New Mexico vs. Rogers State University 0-15

Starting on the mound for the Mustangs in game two, Sophia Solano (Tucson, AZ/Sahuaro High School) pitched 1.1 innings. She faced 13 batters and earned two strikeouts for the Mustangs. Coming in to help, Kiya Hamar (Forest Ranch, CA/Pleasant Valley High School) pitched 2.0 innings, facing 12 batters, and earned one strikeout while on the mound. As the relief pitcher, Guilianna Wilson (Peoria, AZ/Mountain Ridge High School) made an appearance for 1.2 innings. Facing 13 batters, she earned one strikeout.

Offensively, the Mustangs had a total of 18 at-bats. They earned zero runs but had three hits from Abbi Markus (Sun City, AZ/Liberty High School), Lanessa Morales (Vail, AZ/Cienega High School), and Nichole Armijo (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain High School). In total, the Mustangs had seven strikeouts and one walk against the Hillcats.
