Los Lunas, New Mexico – The Mustangs start their 2025 season with day one of the South Central Regional Crossover hosted by WNMU in Los Lunas, NM. In today's matchups, WNMU went up against New Mexico Highlands and Adams State. Against NMHU, the Mustangs lost 2-7 and came back to win against Adams State 10-4.
Game One: Western New Mexico vs. New Mexico Highlands 2-7
On the mound for the Mustangs, Labraida Tenorio (Rio Rancho, NM/Rio Rancho High School) pitched a total of five innings with a total of 96 pitches, facing 26 batters. She earned three strikeouts during her five innings. Kiya Hamar (Forest Ranch, CA/Pleasant Valley High School) will come in during the sixth inning and face five batters with a total of 19 pitches and one strikeout. Madison Kloepper (Llano, TX/Llano High School) will be the last pitcher against the Cowgirls. She faced four batters and had a total of 12 pitches.
Offensively, the Mustangs had a total of 29 at-bats. They earned two runs with Kaylee Hickman (Cloudcroft, NM/Cloudcroft High School) and Ciara Spencer (Gallup, NM/Gallup High School) crossing the plate. Kaylee Hickman (Cloudcroft, NM/Cloudcroft High School) earned two hits including one homerun for the game's first run. The Mustangs did a good job staying on the ball and allowing only two strikeouts during the game. Being patient at the plate, the Mustangs picked up four walks from the Cowgirls.

Game Two: Western New Mexico vs. Adams State 10-4
Starting on the mound for the Mustangs in game two, Alixe De Anda (Queen Creek, AZ/Red Mountain High School) pitched 2.2 innings. She face 15 batters with a total of 57 pitches. She earned two strikeouts for the Mustangs. Coming in to relieve her, Maddison Kloepper pitched 4.1 innings facing 15 batters and throwing 53 pitches. She earned one strikeout during her time on the mound.
Offensively, the Mustangs had a total of 29 at bats. They earned 10 runs with Kaylee Hickman (Cloudcroft, NM/Cloudcroft High School), Hannah Martinez (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad High School) and Lauryn Carbajal (Tucson, AZ/Sunnyside High School) crossing the plate twice each. Madeline Bleak (Mesa, AZ/Mountain View High School) did the team a huge favor with a two-run homerun. In total, the Mustangs earned nine hits for the win 10-4 against the Grizzlies.
