WINTER GARDEN, Flor. - The Western New Mexico University Men's Golf Team qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships in Winter Garden, Flor., hosted by Orange County National Golf Center, thanks to their victory in the NCAA South Central/West Super Regional. Currently the Mustangs are T-10th at (+4), 288.
Three Mustangs lead the way all T-29th at E,
Adam Niles (Kamloops, BC/Valley View Secondary HS),
Arnav Arkanath (Milton Keynes, GB/Sir Henry Floyd HS) and
Tomas Ribeiro (Porto Seguro, BR/Evolução Centro HS). Niles managed four birdies on the day. Arkanath sunk one birdie and an eagle on a par four. Ribeiro was good for four birdies on the day.
Freshman
Max Kaesebier (Bad Langensalza, Germany/Pierre-de-Coubertin Gymnasium) is T-81st at (+4), 75 with two birdies. T-97h is
Joey Geary (Phoenix, AZ/Sunnyslope HS) at (+6), 77 ending his round with two birdies.
Tied for first place is Oklahoma Christian and Colorado Christian at (-7). West Florida and Grand Valley State round out the top three at (-5).
Tony Tao (Cal State Monterey Bay) sits in first at (-8). Second is claimed by Manuel Cue (Grand Valley State).Â
The Mustangs will tee off tomorrow at 8:25 AM EST.
Before the tournament began, last night the Mustangs were honored with the Men's Golf Team GPA Award for having the Best Team GPA (3.81) at the festival. Arkanath was also honored as having the highest GPA of all Men's Golfers with a 4.0.
