MESA, Ariz- The Mustangs competed at Mesa Community College yesterday in Mesa, Arizona where both the men's and women's teams were entered.

The women took care of business once more with five mustangs who finished in the top 10 at the meet this week. Strong performances were made in the field events as Selma Carrasco continued to lead the team in the Javelin throw with a mark at 29.73m, which put her in a 3rd place finish. Her throw was followed by Catherine San Miguel with an attempt at 27.05m, placing her 7th overall. Behind her was Maia Mesa with a throw at 14.93m.

In the 400m hurdles, Veronika Garcia produced a top 5 time in her heat as she came across the line at 1:12.16sec. Her race was followed up with an excellent throwing performance in Discus as Britney Hickman took 10th in her field with a throw at 23.61m.

The men continued to show out the week as three of the mustangs distance team competed in the 10,000m for the first time this season. All three took top 10 finishes in the meet as each of them broke the previous 10,000m school record. Aaron Perez (El Paso, TX/Eastwood HS) continued to lead the distance squad this week as he took a runner-up finish in Mesa with a time of 31:43.87. His 10,000m position was only a few seconds in front of Cody Hepker (Albuquerque, NM/Sandia HS), who crossed the line behind him in 3rd with a time of 31:54.38sec. Joshua Lara (Albuquerque, NM/Atrisco Heritage Academy HS) also ran strong as he earned 6th overall with a time of 32:40.08.
