LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. - The Western New Mexico University Women's Golf team began play at Wigwam Resort-Red for the Southwest Minnesota State University Spring Invitational. After one round of the play the Mustangs sit in 1st place at (+5), 293. The Mustangs are the only team to shoot under 300 on the day.
Alexandria Klemke (Goodyear, AZ/Estrella Foothills HS) sits alone in 1st place at (-2), scoring a 70. Klemke would tally three birdies and one eagle in round one.
Right on the heel of Klemke is Shandiin Harper (Farmington, NM/Piedra Vista HS), alone in 2nd place at (-1), shooting a 71. Harper would finish round one with three birdies.
T-3rd is Chelsea Medina (Silver City, NM/Silver HS) at (+2), with a score of 74. Medina would record two birdies in round one.
Junior Taysea Powell (Artesia, NM/Artesia HS) sit T-12th at (+6), carding a 78. Powell would end her round on a high-note, with a birdie on 18 for her lone birdie of the round.
Mia Trousdale (El Paso, TX/Eastwood HS) rounds out the lineup T-29th at (+9), shooting an 81.
WNMU currently sits in 1st place at (+5). Chardon State hold 2nd place at (+17) and Missouri Western St. sits 3rd at (+18).
Klemke sits in 1st place at (-2), with Harper sitting right behind her in 2nd place at (-1). Tying Medina for 3rd place at (+2) is Brooke Kramer of Chardon State and Tuesday Epperson of Westminster College, Utah.
The Mustangs will resume the SMSU Invite tomorrow morning (3/8/23).
