EL PASO, TEXAS - The Western New Mexico University Men's Golf team finished the RGJA (Cactus Thaw!) at Painted Dunes Golf Course in El Paso, Texas. After play suspended the first round yesterday, the Mustangs would finish round one and two today.
Even with wind gusts up to 25 MPH the Mustangs would find a way to be victorious, winning the (Cactus Thaw!) with rounds 303-301-604. The Mustangs overall would shoot (+28).
Adam Samnegard (Norrkoping, SWE/Hagagymnasiet HS/Garden City CC) would finish 3rd at (+3), shooting a 74. Samnegard's two rounds would read 73-74, including six birdies, four in round one and two in round two.
Adam Niles (Kamloops, BC/Valley View Secondary) finished 5th at (+6) , shooting a 76. Niles' card would read 74-76, including seven birdies with three in round one and four in round two.
Tied for 14th was Anthony Lara (Anthony, NM/Gadsden HS) at (+12), with a score card of 72. Lara's two rounds would read 84-72, including five birdies with one in round one and four in round two.
Arnav Arkanath (Milton Keyes, GB/Sir Henry Floyd HS) would finish T-16th at (+13) shooting an 81. Arkanath's card would read 76-81, including three birdies, two in round one and one in round two.
Senior Joey Geary (Phoenix, AZ/Sunnyslope HS) rounds out the lineup T-21st at (+15), with a card of 79. Geary's two rounds would read 80-79, including five birdies with three in round one and two in round two.
As for individuals, Aaron Perales (Deming, NM/Deming HS) and Yong To Kim (Seoul, So. Korea/Colegio Han Al Americano) of the Mustangs were also in action. Perales finished 7th at (+9), shooting a 77. Perales' two rounds would read 76-77, including four birdies, two in each round. Kim would finish T-25th at (+17), with a card of 82. Kim's card would read 79-82, including three birdies with one in round one and two in round two.Â
Odessa College would finish second at (+35). Garden City CC and New Mexico JC would tie for third at (+37).
Anthony DeSchutter of Garden City CC would win the tournament at (-1). In second is Laurenz Kubin of Odessa College E. Samnegard would round out the top three at (+3).
The Mustangs will be back in action on February 27th for the DII Prestige in La Quinta, Calif.
