Mustangs Finish Regular Season with 11 Personal Bests

Dallas, TX- This morning, the Men's and Women's cross country teams raced in their final regular season meet preparing for the LSC Conference Championships. The men headed out first on the DBU course, running three loops in total to equal an 8K distance. The women followed them running just two loops to finish at a 5K.

With clear skies and practically zero wind, it was a perfect atmosphere for both of these teams to compete. A few other schools in the LCS made an appearance today as well including: Oklahoma Christian, UT Tyler, St. Edwards, Cameron, Midwestern, UTPB, and Host DBU.

Once again, Aaron Perez (El Paso, TX/Eastwood HS) was this week's top Mustang finisher as he powered through the line with an astonishing time of 24:34.0 to place 10th overall. This not only set his career personal best time, but also the mustang's school record. His brother, Elias Perez (El Paso, TX/Eastwood HS), was the next Mustang to cross the finished as he was clocked at 25:08.1, just five seconds shy of a career personal best for him. Many other runners set new personal bests including, last year's LSC freshman runner of the year, Rowan Flores (Española, NM/Los Alamos HS) who was clocked at 25:22.1. This beat his initial PR by 11 seconds which he had set previously this season. Shortly behind Rowan was Freshman Michael Castorena (El Paso/Parkland High School), finishing his first regular season as a Mustang with a massive personal best at 25:25.8. The men took home a 7th place overall team finish.

Aubrey Lozoya paced the women's team this week as she sprinted the last few meters in the 5K. She is the first female this season to break the 19min barrier, marking her time at 18:51.2. This was a huge Personal best finish for her career as she knocked her initial time of 19:37.9 down. Collapsing across the finish behind her was Itzela Darkenwald who had a remarkable time of 19:16.2. Note that this is also another personal best for the Mustangs. The lady's finished strong and earned a 19th place team finish.
