RONHERT, Calif. - The Western New Mexico University Men's Golf team played the final round of the NCAA West Regional Preview at Foxtail Golf Club. The Mustangs finished tied for 1^st place at (-14), with three Mustangs in the top 15.

Adam Samnegard (Norrkoping, SWE/Hagagymnasiet HS/Garden City CC) led the Mustangs at (-9). He shot a 66 and finished tied for 4^th. Samnegard's rounds two and three were bogey free.

Tied for 8^th is Adam Niles (Kamloops, BC/Valley View Secondary) at (-4), as he shot a 73. Niles and Samnegard finished holes 17 and 18 with a birdie each.

Freshman Anthony Lara (Anthony, NM/Gadsden HS) finished at (-1), tied for 12^th after shooting a 74. Senior Joey Geary (Phoenix, AZ/Sunnyslope HS) finished tied for 35^th at (+5) carding a 74. Tied for 38^th was Arnav Arkanath (Milton Keyes, GB/Sir Henry Floyd HS) at (+6) shooting a 74.

The Mustangs tied Sonoma State University at (-14). Oklahoma Christian finished third at (-10).

Edvin Backstrom of Holy Names University won the tournament at (-15) carding 65-67-69. Tied for 2^nd was Colin Huang, Sonoma State, and Alejandro Armijo, Oklahoma Christian, at (-10). Huang shot 68-70-68 and Armijo shot 65-70-71.

The Mustangs next match will be the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational, hosted by West Texas A&M in Amarillo, Tex. on October 3, 2022.
