Laredo, TX – Western New Mexico University's women's golf team finished the opening two rounds at the Jack Brown Invitational in 8
th shooting 359 the 1
st round and 335 in the 2
nd round.
Texas A&M-International is hosting the eight team Par 72, 5,953-yard tournament, held at yard Laredo Country Club. All eight teams happen to be LSC foes, where West Texas A&M (616) sits on top, followed by Texas A&M-Commerce (628), and St. Mary's University (638).
Freshman
Taysea Powell (Artesia, NM/Artesia HS) led the Mustangs in both rounds. After the initial opening round, Powell's 86 had her sitting T-31. Moving up to 21
st, Powell found herself shooting a 79 in the 2
nd round after sinking an eagle and a pair of birdies.
Every Mustang had a much better 2
nd round including,
Amanda Portillo (El Paso, TX/Eastwood HS) who is 7-strokes behind Powell. Portillo sits at 35
th shooting an 88 and 84 on the day.
Lexi Lucero (Ruidoso, NM/Ruidoso HS) finished her day 8-strokes better than her 1
st round shooting 92-84. Improving her game by 5-strokes,
Chelsea Medina (Silver City, NM/Silver HS) shot 93-88.
The Lady Mustangs look to use the momentum in round two to finish their play tomorrow (2/2/21) on a high note. The Mustangs are scheduled to tee-off at 8:00am CT to conclude the Jack Brown Invitational.
