Lawton, OK- Running at the Lone Star Conference Championship meet, the Western New Mexico University's Cross-Country placed very well and both teams were finished within the top 15 teams.
The Mustang men's team placed 9
th in the 8k run. The team was led by Michael Anzures with 26:52 which placed him 25
th. David Ceballos was 36
th and ended the race with a time of 27:16. Cody Hepker was next in the line for the Mustangs with a time of 27:28 placing 39
th. Josh Lara placed 40
th in the 8K run with a time of 27:29. Other runners who helped the team earn 9
th were Dylan Walker (67
th), Ahren Thorson (77
th), Rene Arambula (95
th), and Erick Arambula (97
th).
The Mustang women's team placed 13
th overall in the 6K run which was led by Britney Lovato. Lovato had a time of 23:14 placing 13
th. Lovato also earned All-Conference Honors. Behind her was Itzela Darkenwald with a time of 24:57 placing 54
th. Suzie Wollard ended 78
th with a time of 25:58 for the 6k. Maggie Orr ended with a time of 27:53 (115
th). Brenda Prieto ended with a time of 31:01 (125
th) to help the team.
Due to the great day the Mustangs had at the LSC Championship, both teams will automatically qualify for the NCAA South Central Regional Championship in Lubbock, TX.
