San Angelo, TX – Saturday morning three Western New Mexico University Mustangs were named All-Conference at the LSC Cross Country Championship; men finishing 4
th and women 6
th.
"We had a good race. Both the men and the women moved up a spot from last year" said Head Coach
Macario Campos.
14 LSC schools ran in the men's 8k. WNMU scored 140, nudging TAMU-Commerce's 143 for the 4th spot. West Texas A&M came out on top (31, followed by Oklahoma Christian. The women finished 6th out of 15 with 159 points. Dallas Baptist took the gold with 25 points, followed be West Texas A&M (85), St. Edward's (107), Texas A&M -International (132), and Midwestern St. (156).
Four Mustang men finished in the top-50 and two in the Top-10. Sophomore
Daniel Beam finishing in 6
th (25:23.76) and
Michael Anzures crossing the line at 8
th (25:29.25), both were named All-Conference. Finishing in 34
th,
David Ceballos posted a 26:11.84 and in 43
rd Erick Arambula crossed the line at 26:22.85.
As for the women running the 6K, two top-20 finishes were claimed by Junior
Britney Lovato finishing in 12th (22:49.82) and
Janai Clayton not too far behind at 20
th (23:41.40). Lovato was the third Mustang named All-Conference.
Three other Lady Mustangs also competed;
Brenda Prieto finishing 31
st (24:05.88),
Sophia Rodriguez (Tucson, AZ/Marana HS) finished 44
th (24:48.94), and
Maggie Orr concluded at 63 (25:34.81).
Both the Men's and Women's team will be heading to Lubbock Christian, November 14
th, 2020, for the D2 National Cross Country Invitational.
