WNMU Freshman Daniel Beam Set to Compete at 2020 Pan American Cross Country Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- Team USATF announced the roster for the 2020 Pan Am Cross Country Championships to be held on February 29, 2020 in Victoria, Canada. Furman University coach Rita Gary and Cuyamaca College's Thom Hunt will coach the four squads.
 
Coming off a stellar performance to win the USATF Cross Country title, Anthony Rotich from U.S. Army's WCAP highlights a youthful roster heading to Canada with NAU's Corey Gorgas, the junior men's champion leading the men's junior team. On the women's side, third place finisher from San Diego Carrie Verdon from the Boulder Track Club and junior champion Brooke Rauber will lead the senior and junior women's teams, respectively.

Rita Gary - Women's Head Coach
Rita Gary is in her eighth season as an assistant coach of women's cross country and track and field at Furman University. Named the 2018 USTFCCCA Southeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year, she has coached 14 teams to a top-35 finish at the NCAA Championships, highlighted by seven top-15 team finishes.  She has coached teams to three region championships and 16 conference titles. During her career, Gary has coached 40 NCAA All-Americans, including 13 top-10 finishers, 32 Academic All-Americans, five team USATF Championship Qualifiers, and five Team USA Members. A native of Saline, Michigan, she is married to Furman head track and field and cross country coach and two-time Team USA Olympian, Robert Gary. They have one son, Percy.
 
Thom Hunt - Men's Head Coach
Since 2015, Hunt has served as the head cross country coach and assistant track coach at Cuyamaca College. He has coached on several national teams with USATF most recently as the men's coach for the 2015 World Cross Country Championships in Guiyang, China. Prior to Cuyamaca, Hunt coached at San Diego Mesa College. As an elite athlete he was a seven-time NCAA All-American at the University of Arizona from 1976-80, he qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials four times, and was the 1977 IAAF World Cross Country Junior (U20) champion a year after finishing second in the event. Coach Hunt is married to Caroline Marshall, and they have three children; Marshall, Claire, and Chloe. He also plays drums for The Jackals, a no-frills rock n roll band.
 
Scott Hudson - Head ATC
 
Hudson is a certified athletic trainer and sports performance specialist for St. Vincent Sports Performance. Hudson graduated from Indiana University and holds certifications in athletic training, strength and conditioning and various forms of manual therapy. He has experience working with athletes from middle school to the Olympic level and has worked in Europe part-time the last six summers providing care to USATF athletes competing on the IAAF Diamond League Circuit. Following 15 years providing athletic care for tennis players on the USTA Circuit and five U.S. Opens, he has provided care at numerous USATF indoor and outdoor championships in addition to USATF high performance summits. His responsibilities include injury prevention, rehabilitation, and addressing the muscular imbalances of athletes.  
 
Sara Bair - ATC
Bair is a Certified Athletic Trainer who has dedicated her career to her passion for helping elite track & field athletes achieve their goals and dreams in the healthiest way possible. Sarah is currently the Athletic Trainer for the Brooks Beasts Track Club based in Seattle, Washington. She started her USATF journey when she joined the medical staff in Eugene, OR for the 2016 Olympic Trials. Four years later and many USATF events under her belt, she is honored and excited to be apart of the USATF Pan Am XC Team.
