Cross Country Preseason Poll Released; Mustang Men Picked 6th, Women 13th

Richardson, TEXAS – The Mustang men's cross country team gathered 332 points to place sixth in the preseason rankings. The women followed up with 239 points to be picked 13^th in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll as voted on by coaches and league representatives.

West Texas took home 32 of 38 first place votes to take the top spot on the men's side, while newcomer Dallas Baptist was picked to finish first on the women's side with 34 of 41 first place votes.

With the addition of former Heartland Conference members, Dallas Baptist, Lubbock Christian, Oklahoma Christian, St. Edward's, Texas A&M – International, UT – Tyler and UAFS, the total number of teams competing rises to 16 for the men, and 17 for the women.

The Mustang men finished fourth in last year's conference championship, behind an eighth place finish from returning sophomore David Apodaca (Rio Rancho/Cleveland High School) with a time of 26.03.30 in the men's 8K. On the women's side, Jazmine Vertrees (Safford, AZ/Safford High School) helped lead her team to a seventh place finish. Individually, the Safford, Arizona native finished 15^th overall with a time of 23.59.70 in the women's 6K.

Head Coach Macario Campos returns all but two men from last year's roster, and all but one on the women's side.

The 2019 Lone Star Conference Championships will come to Silver City, October 26.
