Lawton, OK--The Western New Mexico University Mustangs entered Thursday looking for their first Lone Star Conference win on the season. Unfortunately, the Cameron University Aggies we're unwilling to cooperate.
Both teams got off to a slow start with neither team reaching double digit scoring by the first media timeout. Things would pick up however, and the Aggies would go into the half leading the Mustangs by six, 32-26.
The offenses would really get going in the second half with both teams shooting a high percentage from the floor. Costly turnovers would end up being the downfall for the Mustangs though as the Aggies were able to score 26 points off those Western turnovers, and would go on to defeat the Mustangs by a score of 82-70.
Freshman
Amarion Cash (Phoenix, AZ/Mountain Pointe) lead Western with 14 points on 4-5 shooting, 3-3 from behind the arc.
Willie McCray (Clovis, NM/Clovis/Westwind Prep Academy), CJ Vanbeenum, and
Jon-Reese Woodson (Corpus Christi, TX/Carroll) would add 13, 12, and 11, respectively.
The Mustangs will be back in action on Saturday as they visit Lone Star Conference foe Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX.
