STATS

SILVER CITY, N.M. –
Coming off of a dominating 3-0 victory over Eastern New Mexico Tuesday night, the Western New Mexico university volleyball team will look to ride that momentum into this Saturday's match against Texas A&M-Kingsville starting at 6 p.m. inside Drag's Court.

After a tough pair of road trips to start the season, the Lady Mustangs (1-8, 1-0 LSC) found their rhythm against their in-state rivals the Greyhounds cruising to the sweep. The win snapped an eight-match losing streak. In the win, Seniors Kalie Lyle (Phoenix, AZ/Sandra Day O' Connor) (13) and Alanna Watt (Hague, Saskatchewan/Hague) (12) led the offense in kills, while senior Heather Verrill (Barstow, CA/Barstow) made her presence felt in her first match back tallying five blocks.

Lyle leads the team in kills with 92, followed by 75 from Watt and 51 from freshman Sarai Migao (Temecula, CA/Chaparral). Sophomore Cristal Carrizoza (Phoenix, AZ/North) has set the table throughout the season and leads the team with 174 assists. On defense, senior Ashley Mataele (Laie, HI/Kahuku) has 136 digs, while sophomore Hannah Tishlarich (Elk Grove, CA/Pleasant Grove) has sent back 25 blocks.

In terms of the Lone Star Conference rankings, the Lady Mustangs are fifth in both team attacks per set (36.16) and in team digs (492). Individually, Lyle is third in three categories in the conference including attacks per set (9.42), kills per set (3.83) and points per set (4.06). Mataele is sixth in total digs.

The Javelinas are 7-4 overall and will open the conference slate tonight (Friday) in Portales against Eastern New Mexico. They went 3-1 in the opening tournament in San Angelo and after a trip to South Dakota in which they lost both against Sioux Falls and Augustana, they traveled to Kearney, Neb., and went 3-1. Texas A&M-Kingsville opened the week with a 3-1 win at home on Tuesday against St. Mary's.

Returners Krystal Faison (105) and Lexi Wick (103) power the offense in kills, while Casey Klobedans has dished out 382 assists. On defense, Jasmine Jacinto has 181 digs and both Haley Hutchinson and Wick have sent back 36 blocks.

The two teams will see each other again on Oct. 21 in Kingsville.

Live video and stats will be available for the match.
