SILVER CITY, N.M. – It will be senior day this Saturday when the Western New Mexico University football team hosts Black Hills State University to conclude the 2014 season with a 12 p.m. kickoff at Altamirano Field.
Sixteen Mustang seniors will be honored before the game in

Marcus Smith (San Diego, CA/Mira Mesa HS),
Brandon Perkins (Tucson, AZ/Desert View ),
Kristian King (Redlands, CA/Redlands East Valley),
Eldrick Bright (Deland, FL/Deland HS),
Adrian Lopez (Santa Fe Springs, CA/Garden Grove ),
Gregory Elliott II (San Diego, CA/Army Navy Academy),

Several other events will take place including 50 percent off public ticket prices, a tailgate will begin at 10 a.m., the first 25 fans through the gate will receive a WNMU cross country bag and also Boy and Cub Scouts will be honored, as well as teams from the Southwest Youth Football League.
The Mustangs and the Yellow Jackets have split their last two meetings with each team winning on the others field as WNMU won in Spearfish last year (38-14), while BHSU won in Silver City (36-24) in 2012.
Mitch Glasmann (Temecula, CA/Chaparral) already broke his own passing and touchdown record for the school since moving to Division II (1992-93) with 3,193 yards passing and 31 touchdowns. He set the mark as a freshman in 2012 with 3,139 yards passing and 27 touchdowns which led him to be named RMAC Freshman of the Year. Nationally he ranks 10
th in passing yards per game, seventh in total passing yards, and fifth in passing touchdowns.
Marques Rodgers (Gardena, CA/Serra) is the first Mustang since 1998 to go over 1,000 yards when Anthony Gray rushed for 1,284. Rodgers now has 1,208 on the season on 210 attempts and five touchdowns. If he goes over Gray's 1,284 it would be the most since 1997 when Gray went over 2,000 (2,220).
Byrd is over 1,000 yards receiving (1,018) and marks the third straight season in which a different Mustang receiver has gone for over 1,000 yards. Last year, Ronnell Pompey had 1,241 yards and 12 TD, while Marquis Sumpter went for 1,180 and 13 touchdowns in 2012. Nationally, Byrd ranks 14
th in receiving touchdowns with 10, 11
th in receiving yards, 13
th in receiving yards per game and 20
th in receptions per game.
The Mustangs as a team have piled up 5,130 yards of offense and 46 touchdowns and hold a 4-6 overall record and 3-5 in the RMAC. Nationally as a team the Mustangs are eighth in total offense per game (513), 10
th in passing offense per game (327.3), fourth in first downs (265) and 21
st in time of possession (32:44).
This past weekend, WNMU held a late lead before Chadron State rallied in the final minute to come away with the 48-45 victory. That marked the fourth loss this season that has come by 10 or less points, including three that were one possession games.
While Rodgers has carried the bulk of the work on the ground, Barnes has rushed for 413 yards on 83 carries and two scores. Glasmann and
Shiane Tupua (Oceanside, CA/Banning) have three rushing TD apiece,
Preston Blincoe (El Centro, CA/Imperial) and
Michael Coe (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad) have also added a rushing score.
While Byrd leads the receiving group in receptions, yards and touchdowns, Bobbit (2), Smith (4), Rodgers (3),
Xavier Ayers (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque) (3), Barnes (2), Young II (4), Courtney (2), and
Cole Coffeen (Springerville, AZ/Round Valley) (1) have all tallied touchdowns. Bobbit leads that group in receiving yards with 394 on 27 receptions, Smith also has 27 grabs for 373. Rodgers is over 300 as well going for 309 on 26 catches. Ayers (287), Young II (235) and Courtney (257) are all over 200.
On defense, Dembrowski leads the way with 54 tackles and has added 23 solo stops. He also leads the team in tackles for loss with 8.5 and in addition has 3.5 sacks, a pass breakup, a forced fumble and recovery. Phillips leads in solo tackles (30),
Anthony Avina (Lake Elsinore, CA/Lakeside HS) leads in sacks (5.5),
Darius Guillory (Temecula, CA/Chaparral) has the team lead in interceptions (5), Bright leads in pass breakups (8) and King leads in fumble recoveries (3).
BHSU is 3-7 overall and 2-6 in RMAC play having won their game this past weekend against New Mexico Highlands (30-27). They also have wins against South Dakota Mines (42-30) and Fort Lewis (40-14). They are 0-5 on the road this season.
Ward Anderson has thrown for 2,554 yards and 15 touchdowns. Phydell Paris has rushed for 655 yards and five TDs, while quarterback Anderson has 451 yards and a team-high seven rushing scores. Anthony Eboreime leads in receiving yards going for 674 yards and five scores, Luke Whalen also has five scores and 496 yards.
On defense, Trent Boner has 104 tackles, 54 solo, which both leads the team. He also has three sacks, six tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.
