Michael Lopez (Phoenix, AZ/North High School) (Phoenix, AZ, North High School, Phoenix College) had a hole-in-one today at the 38th annual Hanny Stanislaus Invitational hosted by CSU-Stanislaus. He aced the 190-yard 11th hole to help his even-par day and finish tied for 34th (77-77-72 – 226). The Mustangs placed 11th of 20 teams (306-301-296 – 903).
"I was a little scared and wanted to hit my 3-iron, but Coach told me to man-up and hit my five," said Lopez. "As usual, he was right and it went right into the hole," he continued.
The Mustangs top scorer was
Patrick Beyhan (Albuquerque, NM, La Cueva High School) with a steady 219 (74-72-73), just 3-over par.
Steven Maxwell (Glasgow, Scotland, Bearsden Academy) finished tied for 42nd with a pair of 76s and one 75.
Zach Blair (Roswell High School) shot 79-77-75 to place tied for 76th.
Cal State Monterey Bay fired a 282 as a team -- 10-better than host and day one leader CSU-Stanislaus -- to win the tournament with a 6-over par 870. The Otters were led by Scott Yeakel who was the individual medalist with a 7-under 209.
Top ranked Chico State shot-up from sixth to a respectful third place showing with a 286 round three. The Wildcats finished with an 884, three ahead of no. 11 Sonoma State (887). Holy Names was fifth (893), followed by no. 2 Western Washington and Cal State San Bernardino (894). No. 23 Dixie State placed eighth.
