With three men's golfers posting scores of par or better in the first two rounds of the RMAC/NSIC Regional Crossover, the Mustangs were hoping to continue their good fortune in the final round Monday, but a lack of collegiate experience coupled with nerves got the best of them. WNMU finished tied for third after a third-round score of 304 (294-285-304 – 883).
Fort Lewis College took the victory (292-277-298 – 867) with UC-Colorado Springs swooping in to take second (290-294-290 – 874), the spot WNMU held yesterday. WNMU tied with CSU-Pueblo who turned in the lowest third round score in the20-team field to jump up from seventh place.
Steven Maxwell (Glasgow, Scotland, Bearsden Academy) placed on the top of the leader board for the Mustangs. He entered round three at 3-under par but tacked on six extra strokes (78) to finish at a plus-3 219 and tie for 11th place.
Patrick Beyhan (Albuquerque, NM, La Cueva High School) was consistent throughout the tournament to post a strong 75-72-73 – 220.
Anders Friman (Stockholm, Sweden, Hersby Gymnasium) and
Michael Lopez (Phoenix, AZ/North High School) (Phoenix, AZ, North High School, Phoenix College) were tied for 20th with a 222.
Oscar Sachs (Auckland, New Zealand, St. Kentigern High School) improved each round to finish with a 78 and a total of 247 for a tie at 93rd.
