The Mustangs will be headed back to Silver City early as they dropped their NCAA Men's Tennis Championship Sweet 16 match to Northwood University (MI), 5-1.
WNMU earned their one and only point at No. 3 doubles with
Francisco Damasio (Jundiai, Brazil, Centro Educational Sigma High School) and
Yoeri VanSpeybroeck (Nevele, Belgium, Viy Handels en Sport Institoot). The duo defeated Max Dutois and Alexis Biarneix, 8-6.
At No. 2 doubles,
Flavio Rueda (Mazatlan, Mexico, Universidad Autonoma de Durango, Riverside Community College) and
Kyle Lynch (Albuquerque, NM, New Mexico Military Institute High School) put up a huge fight but fell in the heartbreak tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-4).
Henning Thrien (Gelsenkirchen, Germany, Carl Friedrick Gaus Gymnasium, Hope International University) forced a third set at No. 2 singles after dropping the first set, 6-2. Thrien bounced back to take the second by an easy 6-1 margin but then gave up the third by the same score as the first.
WNMU finishes the season with an impressive 16-7 record.
