Men's Tennis Has Big Day

The WNMU Mustangs cruises to RMAC Championship game held Saturday morning after defeating MSU, Billings, 5-1, in the semifinal round on Friday.

With the semifinals and finals' protocol being to clinch the matches, WNMU finished the match well ahead of the other teams playing.

Kyle Lynch (Albuquerque, NM, New Mexico Military Institute High School) kept up with his winning ways with an 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles with partner Flavio Rueda (Mazatlan, Mexico, Universidad Autonoma de Durango, Riverside Community College). Lynch then easily handled Luis Olivera, 6-1 and 6-1, at No. 3 singles. Rueda also won his singles match with a 6-4 and 6-3 win over Travis Lehman.

With the win, the smiles kept on going as WNMU's Yair Banuelos (Mexico City, Mexico, Universidal del Valle de Mexico, Riverside Community College) was named the RMAC Player of the Year. Banuelos was all named to the All-RMAC First Team Singles along with teammates Henning Thrien (Gelsenkirchen, Germany, Carl Friedrick Gaus Gymnasium) and Lynch.

Rueda earned the fourth spot on the Second Team Singles while Yoeri VanSpeybroeck (Nevele, Belgium, Viy Handels en Sport Institoot) and Francisco Damasio (Jundiai, Brazil, Centro Educational Sigma High School) were both placed on the Third Team.

Banuelos and Thrien also earned a spot on the All-RMAC First Team Doubles. Damasio and VanSpeybroeck clinched a spot on the Third Team.

Head coach Erik Burton was named RMAC Co-Coach of the Year.

The RMAC Championship match is set for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.
