Beyhan Has Strong Performance In Phoenix

Freshman Patrick Beyhan
After rain delayed portions of the Grand Canyon Fall Invitational, the Mustangs jumped one spot from fifth place to fourth after the second time around the links (294-302 – 596), which was scheduled for Monday but wasn't completed until Tuesday morning. WNMU then slipped to seventh to tie with Point Loma Nazarene with a 306 in the third round.

Taking first, ranked No. 1 nationally in NCAA Division II Western Washington shot an even par over the two days, the highest winning score since 2000, while being held at the Golf Club of Estrella. Grand Canyon tied University of Colorado-Colorado Springs for second and final team scores of 884, 20-over par.

WNMU finished fourth out of five RMAC schools in attendance.

Western Washington's Dylan Goodwin was the individual medalist with a final score of 6-under par 210. Goodwin's 63 in round one was the third best single round score in the 17-year history of the GCU Fall Invitational.

Patrick Beyhan (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva High School) was the top Mustang. He posted rounds of 71-70-73 to finish 2-under par with a 214 and a fourth place tie. Steven Maxwell (Glasgow, Scotland/Bearsden Academy) shot 2-under after two rounds but then tacked on four extra strokes to finish tied for ninth (70-72-76 – 218).

Michael Lopez (Phoenix, AZ/North High School) recorded his best round on Tuesday with a 77. He placed 60th with teammate Anders Friman (Stockholm, Sweden/Hersby Gymnasium) who notched a pair of 80's in the final two rounds. Newcomer Ben Nelson (Puyallup, WA/Puyallup High School) had a shaky second round with an 89 but then bounced back with an 80 in the final round to finish 84th (78-89-80 – 247).
