In first round action of day one of the NCAA Division II National Team Tournament, No. 11 Northwood took the Western New Mexico Mustangs to a quick 5-0 finish to advance to the quarterfinal round, Wednesday.

The Northwood Timberwolves advance to 20-1, while Western New Mexico drops to 15-12 to end their 2009 campaign.

Sweeping doubles to start the match, Northwood jumped out to an quick 3-0 lead as No. 16 duo Peter Kazianschuetz and Frederic Schloezel defeated Kyle Lynch (Albuquerque, NM, New Mexico Military Institute High School) and Emmanuel Hecher (Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Colegio Pitagoras) 8-4 in slot one.
The second and third positions followed as Oliver Brignoli and Alex Minicozzi took Wilton Atkins (Wanganui, New Zealand, Wanganui Collegiate School, University of North Alabama) and Valu Fa (Suva, Fiji, Natabua High School, New Mexico Military Institute) 8-2, and Bertrand Vigouroux and Maxime Dutors teamed up to clinch the opening sweep with an 8-4 decision over Flavio Rueda (Mazatlan, Mexico, Universidad Autonoma de Durango, Riverside Community College) and Luke Salazar (Albuquerque, NM, Valley High School).

Singles action was determined by the first and second spots, as No. 38 Kazianschuetz of Northwood took Rueda to a 6-2, 6-2 finish.

Securing the match for Northwood was second slot Schloezel with a 6-1, 6-0 final decision over Lynch to send the Timberwolves into the next round.
