LAS VEGAS, NM - The Western New Mexico University Women's Cross-Country team put together a strong performance in the 5000 meter race, earning the team victory with a score of 38 points while placing four runners inside the top 10.
McKenna Sahd (Angel Fire, NM/Cimarron High School) led the way for the Mustangs, finishing 3rd overall among 32 total runners with a time of 18:53.78. Her performance helped set the tone for WNMU early in the race and contributed to the team's strong finish.
Sophie Grijalva (Albuquerque, NM/Cibola High School) followed with a 6th-place finish, crossing the finish line in 19:06.41.
Sarah Romero (Rio Rancho, NM/Cleveland Sue High School) also finished inside the top 10, placing 8th with a time of 19:25.03.
Juliana Castillo (Albuquerque, NM/Rio Grande High School) rounded out the team's top 10 finishers, earning 10th place in 19:38.96. Jeanette Rivera continued WNMU's strong showing with an 11th-place finish at 19:45.98.
Marissa Hernandez (Mesa, AZ/Chandler High School) finished 15th with a time of 21:02.54, while
Megan Tsabestaye (Casa Grande, AZ/Casa Grande Union High School) placed 17th in 21:36.33.
Nevaeh Escobedo (El Paso, TX/Canutillo High School) crossed the line shortly after, finishing 18th with a time of 21:39.13.
Mya Vigil (Mora, NM) also competed for WNMU, finishing 25th overall with a time of 24:02.80.
With four runners finishing inside the top 10, five inside the top 11, and several more placing inside the top 20, WNMU's depth played an important role in securing the team victory. The 38-point team score highlighted the Mustangs' strong performance across the field.
WNMU will look to build on the team victory and strong individual performances as the cross-country season continues.
