Abilene, Texas – The Western New Mexico University Men's Tennis team opened the Cowboy Classic with a dominant showing in both singles and doubles play on Friday, claiming multiple victories across the lineup.
Christopher Lund-Kühl and
Djamel-Dine Bey (Paris, France/) proved unstoppable as a doubles tandem, winning twice by scores of 8-3 and 8-4. Lund-Kühl followed that up with a clean sweep in singles, earning a 6-1, 7-6 victory, while Bey battled to a three-set win 6-2, 3-6, 10-5.
The pairing of
Mael Houee (Rennes, France/Tennis Club de Bruz) and
Yannik Rogulski (Madunice, Slovakia/) also produced two doubles wins, first 8-7 and later 8-4. Both players added strong singles results, with Houee outlasting his opponent 6-3, 5-7, 10-7, and Rogulski securing a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win.
Meanwhile,
Benjamin Vriends (Mierlo, Netherlands/) and
David Guta (Bucharest, Romania/) combined for an 8-5 doubles win before narrowly falling in their second match 7-8 (5-7). Vriends also shined in singles, taking his match 7-5, 7-5, while Guta fought hard in a tight loss 6-7(5), 3-6.
With all three doubles pairings notching wins and several singles triumphs, the Mustangs displayed both talent and toughness in their tournament debut.
The Mustangs look to continue this strong play into the ITA Fall Regionals in Dallas, TX from October 2-4.
