PUEBLO, CO — The Western New Mexico University men's tennis team concluded competition at the Colorado College Invite Sunday after a competitive weekend of singles and doubles action.
Markuss Oto Meidrops (Ikskile, Latvia/Ikskiles Highschool) led the Mustangs in singles on the final day, earning a 6-3, 6-2 victory. He also teamed with David Guta (Bucharest, Romania/Liceul Teoretic C.A. Rosetti) in doubles, where the pair picked up wins of 6-4 and 6-2.
Matisse Pierre (Nantes, France/IUT GEA Nantes), who advanced to the singles final after Saturday's competition, battled through the final day, dropping his first match 6-4, 6-3 before coming up short 8-6 in his next singles match. Pierre and Alvaro Fernandez Caceres (Badajoz, Spain/Colegio Santa Maria Assumpta) also teamed up in doubles, earning a 6-3 victory.
Nico Lackner (Salzburg, Austria/Bundesgymnasium Seekirchen) received a walkover in his first singles match before earning an 8-8, 16-14 victory. He and Benjamin Vriens dropped their doubles match 4-6.
Vriens added a 6-1, 6-1 singles victory, while Djamel-Dine Bey (Paris, France/National Centre for Distance Education (Online)) dropped his singles match 3-8. Bey earned a 6-2 doubles victory before dropping his second match 2-6.
Christopher Lund-Kuhl (Vaerloese, Denmark/Kruses Gymnasium) finished his singles competition with a 1-2 record. In doubles, Lund-Kuhl and Olivier Hutton (Saint-Pierre, France/Centre National d'Enseignement a Distance) split their matches, falling 4-6 before earning a 7-5 victory.
Alvaro Fernandez Caceres (Badajoz, Spain/Colegio Santa Maria Assumpta) dropped his singles match 3-6, 2-6 before teaming with Pierre for the 6-3 doubles victory.
The Mustangs closed out the Colorado College Invite after a competitive weekend of singles and doubles competition in Pueblo.
