Silver City, N.M. – The Western New Mexico University tennis teams had a strong showing this weekend, collecting hard-fought wins in both men's and women's play at the Kimbell Memorial Invitational at San Antonio, TX.
Mael Houee (Rennes, France/Tennis Club de Bruz) fought hard in his matches and had a 6-2, 6-3 win. Yannik Rogulski (Madunice, Slovakia/) secured a straight-set 6-4, 6-4 win. Benjamin Vriends (Mierlo, Netherlands/) also competed strongly in singles but dropped a close contest with 7-6(7), 6-4. Christopher Lund-Kuhl (Vaerloese, Denmark/) held off in his first game, 6-4, but fell in his second game, 2-6, forcing a tie breaker, where Lund-Kuhl would win 16-14
David Guta (Bucharest, Romania/) battled hard but fell at 2-6, 4-6. Djamel-Dine Bey (Paris, France/) powered through but fell, 4-6, 1-6.
Houee and Rogulski paired up in doubles, but were defeated, 7-5, in their first match. In their second match, they won 6-4. Guta and Vriends played a tough game before falling 4-6. Bey and Lund-Kuhl lost their first match 4-6, and later lost their second match 2-6.
The men's tennis will conclude the Kimbell Memorial Invitational tomorrow.
