SAN ANTONIO, TX – The Western New Mexico men's opened up day one of the Kimbell Memorial Invitational, hosted by St. Mary's University.
Djamel-Dine Bey (Paris, France/) fought hard across his matches. In singles, he dropped his opener 0-6, 3-6, but came back strong in his second match, narrowly falling in a third set super tiebreak 3-6, 5-7.
Christopher Lund-Kuhl (Vaerloese, Denmark/) stood out by winning both of his singles contests. He opened with a commanding 6-3, 6-3 victory, then continued his momentum to secure a 7-5, 6-3 win in his second match.
Yannik Rogulski (Madunice, Slovakia/) played two competitive singles matches, falling 6-7(7), 1-6 in the first match and 4-6, 3-6 in the second match.
Mael Houee (Rennes, France/Tennis Club de Bruz) faced tough battles across the board. In singles, he fell 3-6, 3-6 and later fell 5-7, 4-6 in his second match.
Freshman, David Guta (Bucharest, Romania/) played hard before being defeated 2-6, 7-6(7). In his second match, Guta was edged out 6-7(7), 7-5. Benjamin Vriends (Mierlo, Netherlands/) was defeated 4-6, 3-6 in his only individual match of the day.
In doubles, Bey and Lund-Kuhl paired together but would fall 1-6. Rogulski and Houee, fought hard in the 5-7 doubles loss. Vriends and Guta played a tough doubles match before taking the loss, 2-6.
The Mustangs will continue the Kimbell Memorial Invitational on Saturday morning.
