Mustangs Split Last Series of the 2025 Season

Odessa, T.X. – The Mustangs wrapped up the 2025 season today, rounding things out with their final doubleheader against the University of Texas-Permian Basin Falcons! Game one was a nail biter. Both the Mustangs and Falcons exchanged blows till the very end, until the final three outs were called in the top of the 7th inning. The Falcons were victorious, 11-9. In Game two, the Mustangs came back swinging! It was a tight game, just as in the first game, but in the final inning of the game the Mustangs came out on top by 2 runs. Western defeats UTPB and splits the series with a 5-3 win!

Game One: Western New Mexico v.s. University of Texas-Permian Basin 9-11
Starting on the mound for the Western, Labraida Tenorio faced off against 29 batters, throwing 2 strikeouts and the defense backing her up with 4 fly outs and 8 ground outs. Tenorio was relieved by Kiya Hamar (Forest Ranch, CA/Pleasant Valley High School) for the remaining 7 batters.

Offensively, WNMU had a total of 30 at-bats. The Mustangs finished with 10 hits overall. Not too far off from the Falcons 12 hits. This game could have easily gone either way the entire time.  The Mustangs simply struggled in their consistency to bring in runs but saw an explosive sign of life in the fourth, scoring 6 runs! Unfortunately, their comeback was short-lived, and the Falcons would go on to win 11-9.

Mustangs' notable hitters include:
Antonya Lucero (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva High School), 1-for-3 (1 DBL, 1 RBI)
Nichole Armijo (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain High School), 1-for-2 (1 SB, 1 RBI)
Madison George (San Miguel, CA/Templeton High School), 1-for-3 (3 RBI)

Falcons' notable hitters include:
M. Baker, 1-for-4 (1 RBI, 1 HR)
A. Arriaga, 1-for-4 (1 HR, 2 RBI)
E. Aguilar, 2-for-3 (1 DBL, 2 RBI)

Game Two: Western New Mexico v.s. University of Texas-Permian 5-3
Starting on the mound for the Mustangs in game two, Haiven Schoolcraft (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad High School) pitched the entirety of the game, facing 30 batters! She threw 3 strikeouts and only let up 6 hits.

Offensively, WNMU had a total of 27 at-bats. The Mustangs had a harder time scoring than last game…but not as hard as UTPB did. Western would pull out ahead in the very end, to win 5-3 over the Falcons.

Mustangs' notable hitters include:
Ciara Spencer (Gallup, NM/Gallup High School), 2-for-4
Antonya Lucero (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva High School), 2-for-2 (2 BB, 3 SB)
Laryssa Morales (Vail, AZ/Cienega High School), 1-for-4 (2 RBI)

Falcons' notable hitters include:
K. Sanford, 2-for-4
K. Moses, 2-for-4 (1 RBI)

The Mustangs 2025 season has come to an end and they will end their season with a record of 16-37, a program high since 2016! We look forward to seeing them do great things when they return to the field next Spring! Make sure to come out and support your Western New Mexico University Mustangs next season in 2026!
