Box Score LUBBOCK, TEXAS – April 18, 2025 – Western New Mexico University's men's tennis team faced off against No. 6 Lubbock Christian in a Lone Star Conference road match on Friday, falling by a final score of 0-7 at the Penny Gullo Tennis Center.
Doubles play opened with strong energy from the Mustangs.
Mael Houee (Rennes, France/Tennis Club de Bruz) and
Javier Romero (Tlalnepantla, Mexico/ETAC) went toe-to-toe at the top line, ultimately falling 6-4 in a tightly contested match. The No. 2 duo of
Birk Arwedahl (Karlskrona, Sweden/AF Chapman) and
Alexandre Frigout (/Ozanam/ Saint Jean)dropped their match 6-3, while
Quentin Duvinage (Rasheim, France/Lycée Freppel) and
Titouan Rebois (Boulogne Billancourt, France/Notre Dame de Boulogne) fell 6-0 at the No. 3 position, giving LCU the doubles point.
In singles play, several Mustangs pushed their opponents deep into deciding sets. At the No. 1 spot,
Javier Romero (Tlalnepantla, Mexico/ETAC) split sets against LCU's Kelly Giese before falling in the third, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2. At No. 3,
Alexandre Frigout (/Ozanam/ Saint Jean) delivered a tightly contested performance, winning the second set but narrowly losing the match in a super tiebreaker: 7-6 (11-9), 2-6, 1-0 (10-6).
Mael Houee (Rennes, France/Tennis Club de Bruz) competed at No. 2 and was edged out 6-2, 6-4. At No. 4,
Birk Arwedahl (Karlskrona, Sweden/AF Chapman) showed great resilience, but came up just short in his 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 loss.
Quentin Duvinage (Rasheim, France/Lycée Freppel) (No. 5) and
Titouan Rebois (Boulogne Billancourt, France/Notre Dame de Boulogne) (No. 6) were both defeated in straight sets as Lubbock Christian closed out the match.
Western New Mexico falls to 6-6 overall and will close out the regular season on Saturday, April 19, with another Lone Star Conference matchup at Texas Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas. First serve is set for 8 a.m. MT.
