Mustangs Split in Wichita Falls

Wichita Falls, Texas – Western New Mexico softball continued its 2025 season on the road, earning a split in a doubleheader against Midwestern State at Mustangs Park. After falling in Game One, 7-0, the Mustangs bounced back in Game Two with a clutch 9-7 win in extra innings.

Game One: Midwestern State 7, Western New Mexico 0

The Mustangs were held in check offensively, managing just two hits in the opener. Labraida Tenorio (Rio Rancho, NM/Rio Rancho High School) pitched a complete game, going 6.0 innings and throwing 88 pitches, allowing seven runs while facing 27 batters.

Game Two: Western New Mexico 9, Midwestern State 7 (8 innings)

WNMU responded with a strong offensive performance in Game Two, scoring nine runs on 11 hits to take the win in eight innings. The Mustangs built a 7-1 lead by the sixth before Midwestern rallied to tie it. WNMU pushed across two runs in the top of the eighth and held on to split the series.

Haiven Schoolcraft (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad High School) got the start, pitching 6.2 innings with four strikeouts. Alixe De Anda (Queen Creek, AZ/Red Mountain High School) came in to close out the game and earned the win (2-8), giving up just one hit over 1.1 innings.

Offensively, WNMU showed great balance. Ciara Spencer (Gallup, NM/Gallup High School) was unstoppable at the plate and on the basepaths, scoring four runs and driving in one. Five Mustangs had multi-hit or multi-RBI performances in the win.

The Mustangs return to Silver City for a home doubleheader against Lubbock Christian on Wednesday, April 16. First pitches are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. MST.
