Mustangs Drop Hard Fought Doubleheader to #1 Team in the Country

Tyler, TX – The Mustangs continue their 2025 season traveling to Tyler, Texas. Facing off against the UT Tyler Patriots, the Mustangs dropped both games. In the first game, the Mustangs managed a praise-worthy feat of putting 3-runs on the #1 team in the nation, and 2 of them earned of a big home run by Antonya Lucero (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva High School), but after taking the Patriots all the way seven innings, the final score was 3-9, in UT Tyler's favor. In the second game the Mustangs were a little less fiery and would drop the game 0-8 to the home team.

Game One: Western New Mexico vs. University of Texas at Tyler 3-9
Starting on the mound for the Mustangs, Labraida Tenorio (Rio Rancho, NM/Rio Rancho High School) who pitched a single inning, facing 11 batters. She earned one strikeout and threw 42 pitches. Coming in to help the Mustangs, Madison Kloepper (Llano, TX/Llano High School) pitched three innings, facing 20 batters, and throwing 72 pitches. Ending the game, Haiven Schoolcraft (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad High School) (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad High School) threw one inning for the Mustangs. She faced five batters and threw 25 pitches against the Patriots.
Offensively, the Mustangs had a total of 24 at-bats. The Mustangs put in work to earn three hard-fought runs late in the game. They earned three hits as a team. Antonya Lucero (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva High School) ended the day with a 2-run homerun. In support, Addisen Byers (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva High School) and Lauryn Carbajal (Tucson, AZ/Sunnyside High School) each had a hit to add to the count.

Starting on the mound for the Mustangs in game two, Alixe De Anda (Queen Creek, AZ/Red Mountain High School) pitched the beginning of the first. She faced 7 batters and had 17 pitches, but was not able to come away with any strikeouts for the Mustangs. As the relief pitcher, Haiven Schoolcraft (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad High School) made an appearance, for 5 innings, facing 26 batters with 115 pitches and two strikeouts.
Offensively, the Mustangs had a total of 19 at-bats. They had one player reach the bases on a HBP, but so no luck elsewhere.
