PUEBLO, COLO. — The Western New Mexico University women's golf team concluded the Southern Colorado Open with a seventh-place finish, recording a two-round team score of 629 (+53). The Mustangs started strong with a 307 in Round 1 before closing out the tournament with a 322 in Round 2.
Alexandria Klemke (Goodyear, AZ/Estrella Foothills HS) led the way for WNMU, tying for 14th place with rounds of 75 (+3) and 78 (+6), finishing with a total of 153 (+9). Shandiin Harper (Farmington, NM/Piedra Vista HS) followed, tying for 30th after posting a 74 (+2) in the opening round and an 82 (+10) in Round 2, totaling 156 (+12).
Corynn Speer (Alamogordo, NM/Alamogordo, HS) claimed 37th place with scores of 76 (+4) in Round 1 and 83 (+11) in Round 2 for a total of 159 (+15). Erin Turner (Deming, NM/Deming HS) improved in the second round, carding an 85 (+13) and a 79 (+7) for a total of 164 (+20) to finish 50th.
Falyn Lackey (Hobbs, NM/Hobbs HS) secured 54th place with rounds of 82 (+10) and 83 (+11), bringing her to a total of 165 (+21). Competing individually, Kelly Peden (El Paso, TX/Eastwood HS) finished 57th, recording scores of 84 (+12) and 85 (+13) for a total of 169 (+25).
Western New Mexico will now turn its attention to the RJGA Palm Valley Classic in Goodyear, Arizona, scheduled for April 4–5, 2025, at Palm Valley Golf Club.
