Mustangs Split Series in First Win Against Lubbock

LUBBOCK,TEXAS – The Mustangs continued their 2025 season with a trip to Lubbock, Texas, where they faced off against Lubbock Christian University. In a historic moment for Western New Mexico, the Mustangs secured their first-ever win against LCU in Game 1, triumphing 6-3. The series ended in a split, with the Chaps bouncing back in Game 2 for an 11-3 victory in the sixth inning.

Game One: Western New Mexico 6, Lubbock Christian University 3

The Mustangs brought the heat in the first game, holding a lead for most of the contest. They went on to secure a 6-3 victory, marking their first-ever win against Lubbock Christian University.

Starting pitcher Labraida Tenorio (Rio Rancho, NM/Rio Rancho High School) threw four innings, facing 22 batters, earning one strikeout, and tossing 68 pitches. Madison Kloepper (Llano, TX/Llano High School) came in for two innings of relief, facing 7 batters and throwing 26 pitches.

Offensively, the Mustangs had 29 at-bats and recorded six runs.

Game Two: Western New Mexico 3, Lubbock Christian University 11

In the second game, the Chaps came out strong, but the Mustangs fought hard. However, Lubbock Christian ultimately won in the sixth inning, 11-3.

Haiven Schoolcraft (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad High School) started for the Mustangs, pitching five innings, facing 29 batters, throwing 106 pitches, and recording two strikeouts. Kiya Hamar (Forest Ranch, CA/Pleasant Valley High School) also saw action, facing 5 batters and throwing 18 pitches.

Offensively, the Mustangs had 24 at-bats and recorded 5 hits, including a home run by Antonya Lucero (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva High School).

The Mustangs will return home for their next doubleheader against the University of Texas – Permian Basin on Friday, March 21st, 2025. First pitches are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. MT.
