Mustangs V.S. Mustangs: A Sequel

Silver City, N.M. - Western New Mexico University's men's basketball faced off with the Midwestern State University Mustangs. The Mustangs had a rough game, and yet MSU did not do much better. Western would fall 46-68, to the MSU Mustangs.
The Mustangs were led offensively by Carson Kelly (Chandler, AZ/Chandler High School) with 19 points (6-13) and Matthew Okoye (Sugarland, TX/Stephen F. Austin High School) with 10 points(2-9). On the defensive side, James McCallum (Long Beach, CA./St. Bernard's High School) finished the game off with 10 rebounds, while Donovan Black (Las Cruces, NM/Del Valle High School) followed closely with 7 rebounds and 2 blocks.
In the first half, the Mustangs were averaging 29.6%(8-27) from the field and 10.0%(1-10) beyond the arc. MSU averaged 33.3%(10-30) from the field and held to only 15.4%(2-13) from 3-point range. In the second half, Western averaged only 25%(7-28) from the field and 14.3%(1-7) from 3-point range. On the opposing side, the Chaps finished the second half shooting 52.9%(18-34) from the field and 38.5%(5-13) from beyond the arc. The Mustangs averaged 82.4%(14-17) from the free-throw line, while on the opposition's side, Midwestern averaged 83.3%(5-6). The final score, Western 46, Midwestern 68.
Western will be home once again next week, playing the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds. They will tip off February 13th, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. MT.
