Silver City, N.M. - Western New Mexico University's men's basketball faced off with the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds. The Mustangs had a rough game all around. The Greyhounds dominated, holding the lead for the entirety of the game. Final score, Mustangs 70, Greyhounds 97.
    The Mustangs were led offensively by
Matthew Okoye (Sugarland, TX/Stephen F. Austin High School) with 19 points (2-6) and
Carson Kelly (Chandler, AZ/Chandler High School) with 16 points (6-18). On the defensive side,
Carson Kelly (Chandler, AZ/Chandler High School) led in rebounds with nine.
    In the first half, the Mustangs were averaging 35.5%(11-31) from the field and 14.3%(1-7) beyond the arc. Eastern averaged 57.9%(22-38) from the field and 55.6%(5-9) from 3-point range. In the second half, Western averaged only 30.3%(10-33) from the field and 0%(0-10) from 3-point range. On the opposing side, the Greyhounds finished the second half shooting 44.4%(16-36) from the field and 28.6%(2-7) from beyond the arc. The Mustangs averaged 73%(27-37) from the free-throw line, while on the opposition's side, ENMU averaged 66.7%(14-21). The final score, Western 70, Eastern 97.
Western will be home once again this week, playing the West Texas A&M Buffaloes. They will tip off February 15th, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. MT.
