Mustangs Battle to the End

Edmond, Oklahoma - The Western New Mexico Mustangs Men's Basketball team carries on their final away game in the 2024-2025 season in a match against the Oklahoma Christian Eagles in Edmond, Oklahoma at the Payne Athletic Center. The WNMU Mustangs would lose to the Eagles, 62-66. The Mustangs would rise above the Eagles in their shooting era, averaging 40.0% (24-60), while the Eagles were 34.8% (23-66). The Mustangs lost to the Eagles in three-pointers, averaging 18.8% (3-16) versus 26.7% (4-15)  for the Eagles. The Mustangs battled hard with the Eagles in free throws, with an average of 73.3% (11-15), while the Eagles averaged higher with 80.0% (16-20) rising above the Mustangs.
 
Carson Kelly (Chandler, AZ/Chandler High School) would lead the Mustangs with a total of 21 points. James McCallum (Long Beach, CA./St. Bernard's High School) played a defensive game with the most rebounds, recording eight for the WNMU Mustangs. Matthew Okoye (Sugarland, TX/Stephen F. Austin High School) and Carson Kelly (Chandler, AZ/Chandler High School) earned three assists to help the team out. While Matthew Okoye (Sugarland, TX/Stephen F. Austin High School) had three steals from the Eagles turnovers.
 
The Eagles make the most of Western New Mexico's 14 turnovers, generating 12 points off those missteps and establishing a strong early lead. Western New Mexico fought hard with nine second-chance points and 14 fast-break points.
 
The WNMU Mustangs will travel back to Silver City, NM for a final match-up against Sul Ross on Thursday, February 27, 2025, to continue their season.
