Canyon, T.X. - Western New Mexico University's men's basketball faced off against the West Texas A&M University Buffaloes. The Mustangs trailed throughout the entirety of the game. The Buffaloes would go on to win 90-62.
    Offensively, were led by
Matthew Okoye (Sugarland, TX/Stephen F. Austin High School) with 15 points(5-11),
James McCallum (Long Beach, CA./St. Bernard's High School) with 14 points(6-9), and
Carson Kelly (Chandler, AZ/Chandler High School) with 11 points(4-8). On the defensive side,
Donovan Black (Las Cruces, NM/Del Valle High School) led in rebounds with 10, while
Carson Kelly (Chandler, AZ/Chandler High School) led in steals with two.
    In the first half, the Mustangs were shooting 41.2%(14-34) from the field and 36.4%(4-11) beyond the arc. The Buffaloes were shooting 47.4%(18-38) from the field and 27.3%(3-11) from 3-point range. In the second half, Western averaged 34.4%(11-32) from the field, and 22.2%(2-9) from 3-point range. On the opposing side, West Texas finished the second half shooting 45.2%(14-31) from the field and 29.4%(5-17) from beyond the arc. Western struggled from the free-throw line, shooting 60%(6-10), concurrently the Buffs shot 81.8%(18-22) from the line. The Buffaloes were victorious, 90-62.
    Western will be continuing its road trip this Saturday, playing long-time rival, the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds. They will be tipping off January 18th, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. MT.
