SILVER CITY, N.M. - The Western New Mexico University Women's Tennis team hosted the 3
rd ranked Mustangs of Midwestern State on Friday morning. MSU would defeat WNMU 1-6.
In doubles, No. 3 pairing of
Caini Wang (New Taipei City, Taiwan/Taipei Municipal Nangang Vocational High School) and
Gabriella Blumberg (Casper, WY/Kelly Walsh HS) took down Sydney Williams and Sofia Giraldo 6-4. The clinching point came from the Mustangs No. 2 duo of
Mann-Ning Li (Converse, TX/John H. Guyer HS) and
Andreea Arnautu (Laval, Quebec, Canada/College Laval) as they took a thrilling match from Hannah Yip and Shreya Chakraboty 7(7)-6(4).
At the No. 1 spot,
Livia Leite (Cunha-SP, Brazil/Bernardino Querido,) and
Ana Sofia Montero Villegas (Caracas, Venezuela) were defeated 2-6 by Jessica Binzari and Anda Ghinga.
As for singles, No. 1 Leite was bested by Binzari 1-6, 1-6. Penciled in at No. 2 was Li, going down 0-6, 3-6 to Ghinga. No. 3 Wang would have her match go unfinished.
In the No. 4 spot Arnautu fell to the racket of Minns 1-6, 1-6. Playing at No. 5 Montero was, falling 1-6, 3-6. Blumberg was in the No. 6 slot today as she went down 2-6, 3-6.
The Mustangs will be back in action on April 6
th against Lubbock Christian at the New Mexico State Tennis Center (10:00 AM).
