THACKERVILLE, Okla. - The Western New Mexico University Men's Golf team faced off agains the Patriots of Dallas Baptist in match/medal play round on Wednesday morning for a chance to play in the Lone Star Conference Championship. After 18 holes, the Mustangs would lose on strokes 7-9.
Adam Niles (Kamloops, BC/Valley View Secondary HS) was paired up with Brannan Cox. Both golfers would remain tied through five holes, until Cox built a one stroke lead on the sixth. Niles would give up another stroke on the 10th, trailing by two. He would take a stroke back from Cox on 12th and tie the match on the 13th. On hole 15, Niles would take his first stroke lead, gaining another on the 16th. Niles would hold off Cox for a two stroke win (69-71).
Mustangs 1-0.
Joey Geary (Phoenix, AZ/Sunnyslope HS) played the likes of Eston Duff. Geary would take the lead from the start, going up one after one. He would slowly build up his lead, being up by six strokes after nine. Geary built his biggest lead, eight on the 11th. The senior would come out on by five strokes (70-75).
Mustangs 2-0.
Arnav Arkanath (Milton Keyes, GB/Sir Henry Floyd HS) would battle Brecken Franklin. Franklin would take a two stroke lead on Arkanath after the first hole. By the third hole Arkanath was able to retake the lead by two strokes. He would keep a stedy lead on Franklin, being up by as much as three strokes on the 10th. Franklin would battle back and birdie the 18th to tie up Arkananth (74-74).
Mustangs 2-0-1.
Tomas Ribeiro (Porto Seguro, BR/Evolução Centro HS) squared off with Lucas Wright. Ribeiro and Wright were in a deadlock through the first four holes, until Wright gained a one stroke lead on the fifth. After nine holes, Ribeiro would trail by four holes. Ribeiro would be able to trim the defict to three on the 13th, but would fall by six strokes to Wright (73-67).
Mustangs 2-1-1.
Max Kaesebier (Bad Langensalza, Germany/Pierre-de-Coubertin Gymnasium) faced off against Sam Jenkins. Jenkins took a one stroke lead after one, growing his lead to three by the seventh. On the 11th hole, Kaesebier was able to square things up with Jenkins thank to a par that tied the match. Jenkins regained the lead on the 14th and would build it up three by the end for a three stroke win (75-72).
Mustangs 2-2-1.
With the match tied, the Mustangs and Patriots were forced to count strokes. DBU would come out in favor of the Mustangs 9-7.

Results:
The Mustangs will now await the Regional Rankings to see if they have made the NCAA South Central Regional.
