Goodyear, AZ. – The Western New Mexico University men's golf team finished up the final round of the RJGA Palm Valley Classic in Goodyear, Arizona and ended in 15th of 20 teams. The Mustangs had a final round of 288 (E) for a three round total of 292-284-288 (E) at Palm Valley Golf Club.
Jacob Alcorta (Silver City/Silver HS) led the way for the Mustangs with a 54-hole total of (-4). Alcorta ended the tournament with a bogey free round of 68 that included 2 birdies and an incredible hole-out eagle on the 17th hole. Alcorta would have rounds of 73-72-68 for a T35 finish. Close behind, finishing the tournament at (-3) were Jayden Schmitz (Oro Valley, AZ/Ironwood Ridge HS) and Jonty Butcher (Barnsley, GB/Penistone Grammar School). Schmitz would card rounds of 72-69-73 and would finish the event 6th in total birdies with 15 for the week. Butcher carded rounds of 71-72-71 (-2) and had a total of 11 birdies and an eagle on the week.
Max Kaesebier (Bad Langensalza, Germany/Pierre-de-Coubertin Gymnasium) was next for the Mustangs with a final round of 76 (+4) for a +8 total to finish in a tie for 89th. Kaesebier would record rounds of 77-71-76 for the week. Rounding out the lineup for the Mustangs, Jack Wadsworth (Plain City, UT/Fremont HS) ended with a final round 82 (+10) to go along with his opening rounds of 76-79 (+21 total) and finish in 105th. As an individual, Elijah Salazar (Santa Fe, NM/Saint Michael's HS) would finish at a +7 total in a tie for 86th with rounds of 76-73-74 for the week.
Next up, the Mustangs will head to the Lone Star Conference Championships in Rockwall, TX, April 20-21st, at Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club.
