Box Score SILVER CITY, N.M. - The Western New Mexico University Women's Tennis team hosted the Patriots of UT Tyler on Friday morning for their home opener. The Mustangs were defeated 0-7.
In doubles, No. 3 duo of
Caini Wang (New Taipei City, Taiwan/Taipei Municipal Nangang Vocational High School) and
Andreea Arnautu (Laval, Quebec, Canada/College Laval) defeated Lusia Moraes and Elisa Buhagiar in a thriller 7(7)-6(5). In the No. 1 pairing,
Livia Leite (Cunha-SP, Brazil/Bernardino Querido,) And
Ana Sofia Montero Villegas (Caracas, Venezuela) were upended 2-6 by Yelena Kim and Muskan Gupta. At No. 2
Mann-Ning Li (Converse, TX/John H. Guyer HS) and
Gabriella Blumberg (Casper, WY/Kelly Walsh HS) lost a close battle to Anna Melnik and Kanika Sivaraman 4-6. This gave the Patriots the doubles point.
As for singles, No. 1 Leite dropped her match to Gupta 1-6, 3-6. No. 4 Montero was defeated by Melnik 4-6, 1-6. Playing No. 5 today for the Mustangs, Blumberg lost a battle 6(4)-7(7), 1-6 to Moraes.Â
Earning No. 3 was Arnautu, winning the only set for the Mustangs before falling to Kim 1-6, 6-3, 3-10. Penciled in at No. 2 for the Mustangs was Li, falling in heartbreaking fashion 5-7, 3-6 to Sivaraman.Â

The Mustangs will welcome Dallas Baptist to town tomorrow with first serve at 9:00 AM MT.
