TYLER, TX — The Western New Mexico University women's tennis team continued competition Friday at the ITA Regional Championships, led by Eva Guta (Bucharest, Romania/Liceul Teoretic C.A. Rosetti (Romania)), who earned two singles victories.

Guta opened the day with a 6-1, 6-4 win before securing her second victory, 6-3, 6-3. She will return Saturday to compete in the consolation draw.

Josefina Bailetti (Pergamino, Buenos Aires, Argentina/Colegio Nuestra Señora del Huerto) split her singles matches, falling 1-6, 4-6 in her first match before bouncing back with a 6-4, 6-0 victory.

Catherine Ndeko (Kinshasa) Kimbiyila earned a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) win in her first match before dropping her second, 1-6, 1-6. Lina Mueller (Munich, Germany) fell in her singles match, 3-6, 2-6.

Guta and Bailetti are expected to compete again Saturday as the tournament continues.
