DALLAS, Texas - The Western New Mexico Women's tennis team made the long trip to Dallas, Texas for a double-header against Emporia State and No. 22 Southern Arkansas. The Mustangs dropped both matches, 0-7 to Emporia and 0-4 to Southern Arkansas.
MATCH ONE (Emporia State):
In doubles, No. 2 pairing of
Mann-Ning Li (Converse, TX/John H. Guyer HS) and
Andreea Arnautu (Laval, Quebec, Canada/College Laval) fell to the Hornet's Lilie Bizouerne and Paige Stanghoner 1-6. Playing No. 1 was
Livia Leite (Cunha-SP, Brazil/Bernardino Querido,) and
Ana Sofia Montero Villegas (Caracas, Venezuela), losing their match 6(5)-7(7) at the hands of Sheriden Wichman and Perla Conde. This earned the Hornets the doubles point.
For singles, No. 2 Li was the only Mustangs able to win a set against her opponent, Angelina Gnezdilova, before losing a truly thrilling match 7(8)-6(6), 6(4)-7(7), 3-10. Leite played No. 1 again for the Mustangs, dropping her match to Conde 4-6, 3-6.
No. 3 today was Arnautu, who lost to the Hornets Giovanna Ferreira 3-6, 6(4)-7(7). Montero was penciled in as the Mustangs' No.4 today, going down 3-6, 0-6 to Bizouerne.
Gabriella Blumberg (Casper, WY/Kelly Walsh HS) was slotted in at No. 5 for the Mustangs. Blumberg was defeated by Pesic, 0-6, 2-6.
MATCH TWO (Southern Arkansas):
The Mustangs No. 1 duo of Leite and Montero fell to the Muleriders' Amelie Gindl and Josie Holderbach 2-6. This gave the Muleriders the doubles point. No. 2 pairing of Li and Blumberg would have their match go unfinished.
In the singles department, No. 3 Arnautu lost to the Muleriders' Lisa Lochter 2-6, 2-6. No. 4 Montero was the next Mustang to fall, losing to Roksana Kokocha 2-6, 3-6.
No. 1 Leite, No. 2 Li and No. 5 Blumberg's matches would go unfinished.
The Mustangs will be back in action tomorrow against Southeastern Oklahoma State, with first serve slotted for 8:00 AM MT.
