ODESSA, Texas - The Western New Mexico University Men's Tennis team opened up conference play against the Falcons of UTPB. The Falcons defeated the Mustangs 7-0.
In doubles, No. 3
Lorenzo Orellano Buratti (Acassuso, Buenos Aires, Argentina/Anibal Mensi) and
Javier Romero (Tlalnepantla, Mexico/ETAC) fell 2-6 at the rackets of Takumi Katsuda and Lucas Nitzschke. Playing at No. 1 for the Mustangs was
Brendan Lock (Cheyenne, Wyoming/Cheyenne South HS) and
Mohjit Grewal (Witten, Germany) dropping their match 2-6 to the Falcons' Johnathon Vega and Vitaliy Horovoy. No. 2 duo
Alexandre Frigout (/Ozanam/ St Jean) and
Romain Malhomme (/CNED) lost a thrilling match to Jonas Krahafer and Grzegorz Rudnicki, 3-6.
As for the Mustangs singles, No. 3 Romero lost 3-6, 0-6 to Rudnicki. At the No. 6 slot Buratti fell 2-6, 3-6 to Angus Howard. No. 5 Grewal dropped a three set match to Nitzschke 4-6, 6-1, 2-10.
Frigout earned the No. 1 spot for the Mustangs, going down 1-6, 2-6 at the hands of Horovoy. No. 4 Lock was taken down by Krahafer 2-6, 4-6. No. 2 Malhomme took his opponent to the third set before going to 4-6, 6-2, 7-10 to Vega.
