Men's Tennis Visits New Mexico State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Western New Mexico University Men's Tennis team took a quick trip to New Mexico State for two matches against the Aggies. Both matches were originally scheduled for last Saturday but postponed for weather. The Mustangs dropped both matches 7-0, 4-0.

MATCH ONE:
In doubles, No. 3 Lorenzo Orellano Buratti (Acassuso, Buenos Aires, Argentina/Anibal Mensi) and Javier Romero (Tlalnepantla, Mexico/ETAC) fell 6-0 at the rackets of Luca Fé d'Ostiani and Itay Feigin. Playing at No. 1 for the Mustangs was Brendan Lock (Cheyenne, Wyoming/Cheyenne South HS) Mohjit Grewal (Witten, Germany), dropping their match 6-2 to the Aggies' Gustavo Campos and Tobias Wallin. No. 2 duo Alexandre Frigout (/Ozanam/ St Jean) and Romain Malhomme (/CNED) lost a thrilling match to Patrick Lohmann and Roko Stipetic, 7-5.

As for the Mustangs singles, No. 3 Romero lost 6-2, 6-1 to Campos. At the No. 6 slot Buratti fell 6-1, 6-0 to Lohmann. No. 5 Grewal dropped his match to Fé d'Ostiani 6-2, 6-3.

Malhomme earned the No. 1 spot for the Mustangs, going down 6-2, 6-3  at the hands of Wallin. No. 4 Lock was the only Mustangs to take a set from the Aggies in match one, with a score of 6-1, 2-6, 2-6 against Stipetic. No. 2 Frigout was the last mustang standing, losing a close battle to Feigin, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5),

MATCH TWO:

In doubles, No. 2 pairing of Frigout and Malhomme took down the Aggie dou of Fé d'Ostiani and Feigin 6-1 to get things started. No. 3 Romero and Buratti battle hard against Lohmann and Mercado before going down 6-3. Lock and Grewal in the No. 1 slot dropped a hard fought match 6-4, giving the Aggies the doubles point. 

For singles, the teams only played until the match was clinched. Lock moved up to No. 3 for this one, falling at the hands of Campos 6-0, 6-1. No. 5 Grewal was the next Mustang to go down 6-1, 6-2 to Lohmann. The Mustangs' No. 6 Buratti was the clinching point for the Aggies, when he was defeated 6-3, 7-5 by Stipetic. 

Malhomme, Frigout and Romero's matched went unfinished. Frigout did take his first set from his opponent. 

The Mustangs will be back in action on Feb. 15th with a matchup against Arizona Christian in Glendale, AZ.
