SILVER CITY, NM – The Western New Mexico University Softball team hosted the series clinching game at The Yard against Angelo State on Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs would try to rally late, but lose to the Rambelles 9-4.
Angelo State would jump out to an early lead. Keilei Garcia would hit a two-out double clearing the bases for a 3-0 lead.
In the 3rd inning Bailey Martinez would hit a solo homerun, extending the lead to 4-0.
The Rambelles would be able add to their lead in the top of the 4th inning with a single from Lindsey Evans scoring Ashlyn Lerma. This would make the lead 5-0.
The top of 7th inning would be more of the same for the Rambelles. Ashton McMillan started off the inning with a Solo HR to extend the lead to 6-0. Tatiana Trotter would double to left scoring Ashton Dirner, making it 7-0. Lerma would follow suit with a double scoring Trotter and Jasmine Warriner, for a 9-0.
In the bottom of the 7th inning the Mustangs would get their rally caps on. Madeline Bleak (Mesa, AZ/Mountain View HS) would get the inning started with a 2 RBI double, scoring Aryana Munoz (Dexter, New Mexico/Dexter High School) and Andi Uemura (Kona, Hawai'i/Konawaena High School), cutting the down to 9-2. Ciara Salazar (Tularosa, NM/Tularosa HS) would step up to the plate next recording an RBI single, scoring Kennedy Jarrad. This would pull the Mustangs to only trail 9-3. Cecy Jurardo would sinlge, scoring Bleak to make the deficit 9-4.
Kamerynn Cordova (Fowler, CA/Fowler HS) would get the start for the Mustangs. Cordova's line would read 3.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 Ks. She is now (3-15).
Cassidy Paulson (Arvada, CO/Golden Colorado HS) would come in relief for Cordova in the 4th inning. Paulson would throw 3.1 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 4 BB and 1 K. Emily Maddux (Douglas, AZ/Douglas High School) would relive her going 0.2 IP, 1 H, 2 Ks.
Cheyenne Floyd would get the start for Angelo, going 6.0 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 6 Ks. Floyd is now (6-4) on the year. Torrey Hogan would replace Floyd in the 7th going 1.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 Ks.
