Buffs Take Two From Mustangs

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CANYON, TEXAS - The Western New Mexico University softball team traveled to West Texas A&M University for a the first two games of a three-game series on Thursday afternoon. The Mustangs would drop both games 10-0 and 12-0 to the Buffs.

GAME ONE:

The Buffs would jump out early in the bottom of the 1st inning against the Mustangs. Ruby Salzman would get things started with a double, scoring Gabie McConnell for an early 1-0 lead. Emilee Boyer would follow up reaching on an error, scoring Salzman to make it 2-0. The inning would not stop their for the Buffs as Diana Murtha singled scoring Maddie Geidel to extend the lead to 3-0. Following Murtha was Braeland Booth with a single to the left side, scoring Murtha and Madison Johnson for a 5-0 advantage. Brittni Rufus would then step up to the plate hitting a single to score Booth for a 6-0 lead. McConnell would follow suit with her second at bat of the inning recording a double to score Rufus to extended the to 7-0. To round out the inning Salzman would record a single, scoring McConnell for a 8-0 lead after one.

In the 4th inning Boyer would send one over the fence for a two-run homerun, scoring Ruby Moore to make the lead 10-0.

Kamerynn Cordova (Fowler, CA/Fowler HS) would get the start for the Mustangs going 3.0 IP, 8 H, 10 R, 5 ER, 2 BB and 2 Ks. Cordova is now (3-16) on the season. Emily Maddux (Douglas, AZ/Douglas High School) would pitch in relief with a line of 1.0 IP, 2 H and 1 K.

Emilee Boyer started on the mound for the Buffs. Her line would read 4.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB and 6 Ks. Boyer is now (12-2) for the season. Emma Parrish would pitch in relief going 0.1 IP,.

GAME TWO:

Emily Maddux (Douglas, AZ/Douglas High School) would get the nod in game two. Maddux would pitch 2.1 IP, 7 H, 9 R, 8 ER and 2 BB. She is now (0-10) on the year. Aryana Munoz (Dexter, New Mexico/Dexter High School) would come in relief going 1.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R and 3 ER. 

The Buffs would get things started early in the 1st inning with a single from Murtha to score McConnell for a 1-0 lead. Johnson would follow suit with a triple, scoring Murtha to extend the lead to 2-0. The scoring would not stop there as Megan Guericke singled sending home Johnson for a 3-0 advantage. Julia Guzman would end the inning with a two-run homerun for a 5-0 lead.

In the bottom of the 2nd inning Guericke would hit a solor homerun to make it 6-0.

The 3rd inning would be more of the same as Johnson stole home for a 7-0 advantage. Shtanne Sanchez would then step to the plate to hit a two-run homerun to make the lead 9-0. McConnell would end the inning with a single to score Rufus to make it 10-0. 

In the 4th inning Johnson would step up to the plate for a two-run homerun bringing in Heaven Moreno for a 12-0 lead.

Emilee Wilson would get credited for the win pitching 4.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB and 3 Ks. Wilson is not (5-0) on the season. Emma Parish would also pitch going 0.1 IP.
