SILVER CITY, N.M. – Friday morning, the Western New Mexico University Men's Tennis team defeated Sul Ross State 7-0 in a non-conference matchup.
The Mustangs secured the doubles point and took the early lead. No. 1 duo Brendan Lock (Cheyenne, Wyoming/Cheyenne South HS) and Yu Jhe Du (New Taipei City/Taiwan/Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School) won 6-0. No. 2 Javier Romero (Tlalnepantla, Mexico/ETAC) and Lorenzo Buratti Orellano would win 6-1. No. 3 doubles, Paul Claussen (Balingen, Germany/Gymnasium Balingen) and Lachlan Rowing (Canberra, Australia/Finigan School of Distance Education) won 6-0.
In singles, No. 5 Claussen would getting things started winning 6-0, 6-0. No. 6 Buratti would follow suit, winning 6-0, 6-0. Clinching the match would be No. 4 Brendan Lock (Cheyenne, Wyoming/Cheyenne South HS), with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Playing No. 3 Romero would defeat his opponent 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 2 spot, Du would win 6-0, 6-1. No. 1 Rowing would win as well, 6-1, 6-0.
The Mustangs will play a conference match versus Cameron with first serve at 10:00am
