Box Score SILVER CITY, N.M. – Thursday morning, the Western New Mexico University Men's Tennis team defeated conference foe Arkansas-Fort Smith 5-2.
The Mustangs secured the doubles point and took the early lead. No. 2 duo with Patricio Larrea (Ambato, Ecuador/Atenas High School) and Javier Romero (Tlalnepantla, Mexico/ETAC) won 6-0. At No. 3 doubles, Lachlan Rowing (Canberra, Australia/Finigan School of Distance Education) and Paul Claussen (Balingen, Germany/Gymnasium Balingen) won, 6-3. No. 1 doubles with Du and Lock were defeated 6-2
At. No. 4 Singles, Romero defeated his opponent, 6-4, 6-1. Claussen had a stellar match winning, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. Playing at No. 5 singles, Lock clinched the match after winning 5-7, 6-4, 7-5. Playing in the No. 1 singles position, Larrea won 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5).
Playing at No. 2 singles, Rowing fell 7-5, 4-6, 3-6. At the No. 3 spot, Du was defeated 2-6, 3-6.
The Mustangs will play a non-conference match versus Sul Ross State with first serve at 1:30pm
